General Strategy

Each Villain includes:

  • A miniature
  • Character Realm (playmat)
  • Unique Villain Deck
  • Unique Fate Deck

Suffice to say, not every Villain is made equal. Some are harder to play than others. It’s worth noting which ones are harder or easier. This will at least make it easier to pick a character for a new player.

Another important reason to keep track of difficulty for each character is to make sure that in a 2-3 player game one person is no singled out as being much easier or harder than the rest.

Other than that, each individual Villain is so unique that there is no overall strategy that works for them all. So we’ll dive right into the Villain guides.

I’d like to shout out to the Villainous fandom, which was a huge resource in writing this guide and is heavily linked to throughout the article.

Disney Villainous Character Guides

Each of these Villains come in either the base game or one of the 3 expansions to the game. This guide will separate the Villain guides up based on which expansion they came with.

Villain Guides: The Worst Takes It All (Base Game)

Captain Hook

Goals

  1. Find Peter Pan in the Fate Deck
  2. Find Never Land Map
  3. Play Allies to Jolly Roger
  4. Move Peter Pan to Jolly Roger
  5. Defeat Peter Pan

Villain Deck

  • Boarding Party
  • Give Them a Scare
  • Swashbuckler
  • Worthy Opponent
  • Aye, Aye, Sir!
  • Cannon
  • Cunning
  • Cutlass
  • Hook’s Case
  • Obsessio
  • Pirate Brute
  • Ingenious Device
  • Mr. Starkey
  • Never Land Map
  • Smee

Fate Deck

  • Pixie Dust
  • Lost Boys
  • Splitting Headache
  • Taunt
  • John
  • Michael
  • Peter Pan
  • Tick Tock
  • Tinker Bell
  • Wendy

Strategy

The goals for Captain Hook are straight forward making him one of the easiest characters to start with and a great option for players new to the game.

The first goal on the list is to find Peter Pan in the fate deck. The best option here is to let opponents fate you and find Peter Pan without actively doing anything. So it’s best to let that goal sit on the back-burner for a while, move on to the other goals, and come back to it if it an opponent doesn’t cause you to find it.

Moving on to the second goal, we have a more straightforward action that can finish this for us: the discard card action. Use the discard card action to slowly work your way through your deck discarding every card. Consider keeping Give Them a Scare and Worthy Opponent until you find Peter Pan.

Along the way to completing the second goal, it helps us a great deal when we have a lot of allies at the Jolly Roger location. However, the map is still a top priority, so don’t hold onto these until you find the map. It’s best to hold onto Mr. Starkey and Ingenious Device for later, they will be helpful.

Once you unlock Peter Pan, he’ll be at the Hangman’s Tree location. You can use your action to move a hero and the Ingenious Device to move him to the Jolly Roger where you can use your vanquish action to win.

Jafar

Goals

  1. Find the Scarab Pendant
  2. Find the Magic Lamp
  3. Find one copy of Hypnotize

Villain Deck

  • Necessary Sacrifice
  • Palace Guard
  • Scimitar
  • Scrying
  • A Snake, Am I?
  • Deception
  • Giant Hourglass
  • Hypnotize
  • Manipulation
  • Sorcerous Power
  • Gazeem
  • Iago
  • Magic Lamp
  • Razoul
  • Scarab Pendant
  • Snake Staff

Fate Deck

  • Wish
  • Crushing Blow
  • Narrow Escape
  • Abu
  • Aladdin
  • Carpet
  • Genie
  • Princess Jasmine
  • Rajah
  • Sultan
  • Treachery

Strategy

The best case here is to start with the Magic Lamp, Scarab Pendant, and a copy of Hypnotize in your hand. Extremely short game and an easy win. However, that isn’t very likely to happen.

Searching for items is at the core of Jafar’s strategy since he needs those 3 items to win. One card in particular, Scrying, is extremely useful in finding those two items. If you find the Scarab Pendant, use it ASAP since it will open a location and free up that spot in your hand.

As you search for the cards, try to gather power since you will need it to play the items once you have them.

Maleficent

Goals

  1. Play Curses
  2. Move Curses to each location
  3. Start the turn with Curses in each location

Villain Deck

  • Cackling Goon
  • Dragon Form
  • Forest of Thorns
  • Green Fire
  • Savage Goon
  • Sinister Goon
  • Vanish
  • Dreamless Sleep
  • Malice
  • Tyranny
  • Raven
  • Spinning Wheel
  • Staff

Fate Deck

  • Guards
  • Sword of Truth
  • Once Upon a Dream
  • Aurora
  • Fauna
  • Flora
  • King Hubert
  • King Stefan
  • Merryweather
  • Prince Phillip

Strategy

The main strategy here is to just use the discard card action until you find four of the eight curses in her deck. Tyranny also helps you find curse cards but be aware of which villains you’re playing against because it works better with some than others.

Play curses quickly and discard constantly should give you a good chance at winning the game. Some curses will get discarded, so you always need to be on the search for them.

Prince John

Goals

  1. Gain 20 Power

Villain Deck

  • Beautiful, Lovely Taxes
  • Imprison
  • Rhino Guards
  • Warrant
  • Wolf Archers
  • Bow and Arrows
  • Cowardice
  • Greed
  • Set a Trap
  • Golden Arrow
  • Intimidation
  • King Richard’s Crown
  • Nutsy
  • Sheriff of Nottingham
  • Sir Hiss
  • Trigger

Fate Deck

  • Clever Disguise
  • Steal from the Rich
  • Alan-a-Dale
  • Friar Tuck
  • King Richard
  • Lady Kluck
  • Little John
  • Maid Marian
  • Robin Hood
  • Skippy
  • Toby

Strategy

Prince John has a very straightforward goal which requires a very straightforward strategy. The most useful car here will be King Richard’s Crown which will help you hold on to power that you gain throughout the game.

Some key cards to watch out for are Cowardice and Greed. Cowardice will help you use less power and Greed will help you gain it, especially against other power-hungry opponents like Jafar and Ratigan.

Queen of Hearts

Goals

  1. Convert Card Guards to Wickets
  2. Play Take the Shot
  3. Win if wickets strength is higher than cost of the top 5 cards in Villain deck

Villain Deck

  • Card Guard
  • Off With Your Head!
  • Spear
  • Take the Shot
  • By Order of the Queen
  • Fury
  • Judgment
  • Makes You Smaller
  • Very Merry Unbirthday
  • Stopwatch
  • The King
  • Tweedle Dee & Tweedle Dum

Fate Deck

  • I’m Late! I’m Late!
  • Makes You Larger
  • Mome Raths
  • Alice
  • Caterpillar
  • Cheshire Cat
  • Dodo
  • Dormouse
  • Down the Rabbit Hole
  • Mad Hatter
  • March Hare
  • White Rabbit

Strategy

The key to this character is finding card guards and getting them into play as fast as possible. Turning them into wickets as fast as possible is a priority as well.

When you go in for the win, it can be obvious a lot of the time which you’re opponents will definitely take advantage of by fating you. It’s worthwhile to stack converting your last card guard and using Take the Shot on the same turn so that your opponents don’t see it coming.

Having Judgment in hand can also help assure your win, so definitely be on the lookout for that card.

Ursula

Goals

  1. Find the Crown and Trident
  2. Find a Binding Contract

Villain Deck

  • Binding Contract
  • Change Form
  • Grow Giant
  • Opportunist
  • Whirlpool
  • Arrogance
  • Divination
  • Trickery
  • Cauldron
  • Crown
  • Flotsam
  • Jetsam
  • Poor Unfortunate Souls
  • Trident

Fate Deck

  • Return to Form
  • Dinglehopper
  • Snarfblat
  • Ariel
  • Eric
  • Flounder
  • Grimsby
  • King Triton
  • Max
  • Scuttle
  • Sebastian

Strategy

Of course, as with most of the other villains, the discard action is going to be a big one to use with Ursula. A great power combo on top of just using the normal discard action is to use Divination and Opportunist to search through the deck and pick up anything that is useful.

If Ariel hasn’t shown up, using Change Form to protect the Crown or Trident is very important.

Villain Guides: Wicked to the Core

This was the first expansion released for Disney Villainous. It includes 3 new villains to play as:

This expansion was released in 2019 and is rated a 7.7 on Board Game Geek.

Dr. Facilier

Goals

  1. Find New Orleans
  2. Find the Talisman
  3. Move to the Voodoo Emporium
  4. Play The Cards Will Tell

Villain Deck

  • Friends on the Other Side
  • Masked Spirits
  • Shadow Spirits
  • Sleight of Hand
  • The Cards Will Tell
  • Voodoo Dolls
  • Desperation
  • Frog Form
  • Terror
  • Cane
  • Illusion Powder
  • Lawrence
  • Rule New Orleans
  • Shadow Man
  • Talisman

Fate Deck

  • Almost There
  • The Evening Star
  • Big Daddy La Bouff
  • Charlotte
  • Eudora
  • Juju
  • Louis
  • Mama Odie
  • Naveen
  • Ray
  • Tiana

Strategy

The best way your opponents can slow your victory is to add card s to your fortune pile and this will happen a lot. There are only some key cards that are worth holding on to like Sleight of Hand which helps sort through your deck.

Using Illusion Powder and Desperation to thin out your fortune pile will be a big part of playing Dr. Facilier as well. Also keeping in mind that the Cane card is extremely powerful and can ensure a quick victory if it’s in the Voodoo Emporium.

Evil Queen

Goals

  1. Find 4 of the Ingredient cards
  2. Summon Snow White
  3. Find Poison cards
  4. Play Take a Bite

Villain Deck

  • Take a Bite
  • I’ll Fix Ya!
  • Black Magic
  • Black of Night
  • Jealousy
  • Magic Tomes
  • Mummy Dust
  • Old Hag’s Cackle
  • Scream of Fright
  • Thunderbolt
  • Vanity
  • Huntsman
  • Magic Mirror
  • The Box
  • Throne

Fate Deck

  • Love’s First Kiss
  • Pickaxe
  • Woodland Creatures
  • Bashful
  • Doc
  • Dopey
  • Grumpy
  • Happy
  • Sleepy
  • Sneezy
  • Snow White
  • Wishing Well

Strategy

Of course, we want to search through that deck to find the 4 ingredients we need. Using Black Magic and Magic Tomes is another great way to sort through the deck and find them.

Gathering poison along the way is pretty important as well. A few easy ways to do this are through the Throne card and Jealousy. This is pretty easy to gain along the way to victory though, so don’t make this a main priority.

Hades

Goals

  1. Play at least 3 Titans
  2. Move them to Mount Olympus

Villain Deck

  • Get Ready to Rumble!
  • Mortality Potion
  • Planets Align
  • Achilles’ Heel
  • Eye of the Fates
  • I Rule!
  • Rage
  • Ruthless
  • Arges
  • Cerberus
  • Chariot
  • Hydra
  • Hydros
  • Lythos
  • Nessus
  • Pain
  • Panic
  • Pyros
  • Stratos

Fate Deck

  • Go the Distance
  • Lightning Bolt
  • Medallion
  • The Gospel Truth
  • Hera
  • Hercules
  • Hermes
  • Megara
  • Pegasus
  • Phil
  • Zeus

Strategy

Hades has a pretty simple win condition but it is surprisingly hard to accomplish it since you are very vulnerable to being fated and set back. Getting the Titans out is an obvious #1 priority. Pretty much any of these Titans are good to play as soon as you have them in your hand. Arges in particular gives you some power, which is useful for the end-game.

Getting those Titans to Mount Olympus really proves to be quite difficult. It can take a lot of moves even if there is no Hero blocking the mountain. Using Chariot and Get Ready to Rumble! can speed this up a good deal, so watch out for those cards.

Villain Guides: Evil Comes Prepared

This was the first expansion released for Disney Villainous. It includes 3 new villains to play as:

This expansion was released in 2019 and is rated a 7.9 on Board Game Geek.

Ratigan

Goals

  1. Play The Robot Queen
  2. Move The Robot Queen to Buckingham Palace
  3. Start the Turn there and become The Rat
  4. Defeat Basil

Villain Deck

  • Gears
  • Capture
  • Ruffians
  • Devious
  • Extravagant
  • Greatest Criminal Mind
  • Marvelous Trap
  • Uniform
  • Airship
  • Bartholomew
  • Bell
  • Felicia
  • Fidget
  • Fidget’s List
  • Royal Robes
  • The Robot Queen
  • Tools

Fate Deck

  • Queen’s Guards
  • Call for Help
  • Sabotage
  • Basil
  • Dawson
  • Flaversham
  • Makeshift Balloon
  • Mrs. Judson
  • Olivia
  • The Mouse Queen
  • Toby

Strategy

Besides using the discard cards action, there are two cards to watch out for that will help Ratigan get through his deck: Greatest Criminal Mind and Fidget’s List. So it’s useful to play those at every opportunity. This will help you find the The Robot Queen at which point you switch to focusing solely on power if you haven’t gained enough at this point to trigger this side of Ratigans victory.

Once you have all of that done, moving The Robot Queen can be done easily with one of 2 cards: Ruffians or Airship. Of course, you can just use the move ally action to do this as well.

Scar

Strategy

Unlike most of the Villains, Scar’s deck tends to be useful enough to not have to discard to many cards. Simply playing them will work your way through his deck at a good pace.

Breaking down the goals for Scar makes it a little easier to win as him:

  • For the goal of gathering Hyena’s, you want to use Be Prepared as often as you can and play a Hyena every time it one is drawn because all 3 have useful abilities.
  • Finding Mufasa can be done pretty easily by just playing Long Live the King every chance you get. Remember that you can also use Whisper if he gets discarded by an opponent.
  • Killing Mufasa is pretty easy once you have all of your Hyena’s at one location.

Watch out for the fate deck on this character as some of the cards can be pretty brutal and delay your victory for a long, long time. Fating your opponents before they can fate you is useful to keep their ability to delay you low.

Yzma

Goals

  1. Find and play Kronk
  2. Find and play Kuzco
  3. Defeat Kuzco with Kronk

Villain Deck

  • After Them!
  • Eavesdrop
  • Imperial Guards
  • Smash It with a Hammer
  • A Cruel Irony
  • Beauty Sleep
  • Fake Funeral
  • Ferocity
  • Finish the Job
  • Right-Hand Man
  • Superiority
  • The Path That Rocks
  • Dagger
  • Kronk

Fate Deck

  • Beware the Groove
  • Peasant
  • The Path of Righteousness
  • Wrong Lever
  • Bucky
  • Chaca
  • Chicha
  • Kuzco
  • On the Run
  • Pacha
  • Tipo

Strategy

Using Eavesdrop and Smash It with a Hammer to find Kuzko is a pretty solid tactic. Smashing piles to get rid of fate cards seems like the best choice but keep in mind that smashing piles without knowing what is in them can cut down your probability for using Eavesdrop later.

At the same time, you should be looking out for and holding on to a copy of After Them!. That will be useful once you have found both Kuzco and Kronk.

Kronk is easily found by either discarded cards until you find him or Right-Hand Man. Playing Kronk early on seems like a good move but can backfire by having to move him to Kuzco’s location later in the game costing you time.

Villain Guides: Perfectly Wretched

This was the first expansion released for Disney Villainous. It includes 3 new villains to play as:

This expansion was released in 2019 and is rated a 8.3 on Board Game Geek.

Cruella De Vil

Goals

  1. Bring puppies into the realm
  2. Capture the puppies
  3. Win once you start the turn with more than 99 puppies

Villain Deck

  • I Live for Furs
  • Cruel
  • Devilish
  • Fireplace Poker
  • Flashlight
  • Get the Job Done
  • Here, Puppies
  • Spotted
  • That Devil Woman
  • The Devil Take It
  • Whatever It Takes
  • You Idiots!
  • Bought and Paid For
  • Horace
  • Jasper
  • Roadster
  • Telephone

Fate Deck

  • Flew the Coop
  • Reckless Driving
  • Twilight Bark
  • We’re Labradors
  • Anita and Roger
  • Captain
  • Colonel
  • Nanny
  • Perdita
  • Pongo
  • Sergeant Tibbs

Strategy

Cruella De Vil isn’t as quick as some of the other villians in the game but makes up for this by being able to fate often without being sidetracked from her win condition. Her win condition, of course, is capturing the dalmation puppies. The general idea is to bring multiple puppies on the board using cards like Horace, Here, and Cruel. Once you’ve got puppies in the realm, start playing “I Live for Furs” to gain some power. After getting 99 puppies in your realm, you can start capturing them by playing Roadster, Horace, and Jasper if you haven’t already. Activate Jasper as often as possible to capture the puppies. One super helpful thing to remember:0 at 121 puppies, being fated by another player can’t stop you!

Some things to remember for the early game:

  • Keep Cruel if you think it will trigger
  • Jasper can be played on his own if needed but Telephone will get him out cheaper
  • Find puppies then capture them. If you try doing both, will slow you down because you’ll have to go to Countryside.
